Wayne Rooney faces the media at Derby County after confirming player-coach role
Wayne Rooney says the opportunity to join Derby County in a player-coach role was 'too great to turn down'.
The DC United forward will join Championship side Derby in January on an initial 18-month contract.
Reports linking Rooney with a move to Pride Park first emerged on Monday evening, shortly before Phillip Cocu's team opened the new season with a win at Huddersfield.
Derby confirmed the deal on Tuesday with Rooney remaining in Washington DC until the conclusion of the current MLS season.
Rooney is England's all-time record goalscorer with 53 goals in 120 appearances, as well as Manchester United's top scorer with 253 goals in 559 games.
