Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney recalled Paul Pogba’s days at the club before he left on a free transfer to Juventus. According to Rooney, the French star who’s mixed up in a reported €110 million world record transfer to his former club, was robust in training even in his fledgling days and it seems the veteran has dropped a hint ahead of his possible return. Furthermore, Rooney hailed the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it sounds like the combination is developing into a threatening one.

When asked by the Daily Mail what he remembers about training with Pogba, Rooney replied: “The bruises. He was one of those players who, when you trained against him, somehow he would just hurt you. A knee in your side, bump into you, I don’t think he meant to do it, but it just happened.”

Paul Pogba joined Manchester United from Le Havre aged 16 and made his senior debut two years later. However, he made only a total of seven appearances in the Premier League for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. Despite little involvement, Wayne Rooney seems to fondly remember the talent for his physicality and admits his qualities have become far more superior than before. He also opined that his addition to the current squad would be an asset for the club and also an opportunity for him.

Rooney added, “You didn’t even need to get into a tackle. Just go next to him and you’d find an elbow or some other sharp bit. So, if he comes, I’m looking forward to that again! But he had great ability, some of the things he could do, and he’s gone up a level since he left us. I hope he is going to want to return to United and prove he’s a top-class player.

After an emphatic comeback victory against Galatasaray in the pre-season friendly, Rooney was full of praise for Zlatan Ibrahimovic who scored a stunning bicycle kick within four minutes of his Man United debut. Rooney continued complementing the value that such a figure adds to the team which effectively deems him as a really important player.

"He’s one of the best strikers and a big personality. You can see he wants to be a really important player for us," the England international explained to the Daily Mail.

"After training, he is already talking about how we can get the best out of each other, you can see he’s got this great work ethic."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined Man United from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and looks willing to turn the page for his employers while adding to his long list of feats.
