Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says that he is ready to take the captain’s armband at Old Trafford. With Nemanja Vidic making a move to Italian side Inter Milan this summer, and Evra’s future being unclear, there aren’t many other candidates to take over.
Rooney said, "I am interested in the captaincy,"
"I've captained United a few times and to get it on a full-time basis would be great."
"I feel I am ready for (the captaincy), but it's the manager's decision,"
Rooney also said that he wouldn’t mind if fellow striker Robin van Persie is given the armband under Louis van Gaal.
"If he chooses someone else, then honestly I've got no problems with that. I will respect his decision.”
“Robin is captain of his country, he has captained Arsenal and if Robin gets the nod to be captain, then I'm sure he'll do a great job."
With Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja, Vidic and Ryan Giggs all leaving the squad in summer, Rooney will be one of the senior players at the club along with Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Patrice Evra. The final decision will be up to Louis Van Gaal.
