Wayne Rooney ready to take injection to play against Bayern Munich

Manchester United’s English striker Wayne Rooney (L) and Manchester United’s Dutch defender Alexander Buttner (R) take part in a team training session at their Carrington training complex in Manchester, north-west England, on April 8, 2014.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney is willing to take pain-killing injections if he has to ahead of their second leg tie against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, revealed Manchester United manager David Moyes.

“Wayne was able to train and he is massively keen to play,” Moyes told reporters. “He’s not trained all week so we have to be wary of that. We’ll do everything we possibly can. He’s happy to take an injection to play in the game, which shows you his feeling about the game and about the club. We think it’s okay.”

“We wouldn’t do anything medically wrong. We’ve taken advice from the doctors and the people who advise us. Everybody knows the type of character Wayne is and he is determined to play. If he is determined we would be mad not to give him that opportunity,” he added.

“Of course it’s the hardest game. We’ll do everything we can to reach the semis. There are a lot of top players on show from both sides. But I’ll do everything I possibly can to help the players get a result on the night,” Moyes concluded.

Earlier this week, Bayern Munich manager insisted that Rooney would play. “He [Rooney] is going to play. One hundred per cent, he is going to play. I bet you a big, big glass of beer. I believe he is going to play, and [Antonio] Valencia too.”

“Rooney is a big player, one of the best players I’ve seen in my career. I’m sure he’s going to play,” Guardiola added.

Rooney’s toe injury had kept him out of Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Newcastle, but he recovered well and was involved involved in training ahead of Wednesday’s clash yesterday.
