Wayne Rooney might not be back to his best on the field but off it, he’s doing just fine. He has been named the richest sportsman in England, a list which was published by the Sunday Times this weekend.
According to the report, Rooney has amassed wealth equal to around £82 million, which makes him the richest sportsman equal to or below the age of 30. His wealth has risen by a value of £ 10 million from last year.
The 30-year-old has a contract at United which earns him a salary of £300,000 a week. He is also endorsed by several multinational brands which include companies like Nike and Samsung.
In second place, are Tennis brothers Andy and Jamie Murray. Andy Murray is a well-known sports personality around the globe and has two Grand Slam titles to his name. HIs brother Jamie Murray was recently named as the best doubles player in the world.
Their total net worth amounts to around £58 million but Andy’s contribution to that amount is £57 million. Golfer Rory McIlroy is third on the list with a net earn of £56 million. He has achieved the highest rise in wealth of any player from last year which amounts to around £18 million.
Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale is in fourth place but earns around £20 million less than McIlroy at £34 million. But he is the second richest footballer in this list. Bale earns around £15.6 million a year at Los Blancos and has endorsements from Addidas, Sony and Electronic Arts.
Several foreign footballers playing in England also make the top 10 list. They include Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Cesc Fabregas, Radamel Falcao, Samir Nasri and Eden Hazard.
