According to BBC Sport, England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be missing out on the Community Shield clash against Wigan Athletic on Sunday, owing to a shoulder injury.
Rooney did not join the United regular team for practise and was involved in a light training session with the reserve team. However, Robin van Persie, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra are all set to return in the match.
The surprising fact was that despite the injury, Rooney was given an England call up by manager Roy Hodgson for their upcoming match against Scotland.
Rooney thanked Hodgson for his “faith and support” in this message on his Facebook account recently.
“Can’t wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland,” Rooney wrote.
“Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it.”
