Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that Wayne Rooney will be back in the United’s squad to face Sunderland this weekend. Rooney who clashed with Danny Welbeck during training missed last night’s Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk with a shin injury.
Previously, a gash in his forehead kept him out of England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine. There was growing concern that Rooney might not be fit to play this month’s important games against Poland and Montenegro.
Moyes put those worries to rest, and when asked after the 1-1 draw with Shakhtar, he said, “It’s not that serious. He took a clash of shins with Danny Welbeck, and it’s just swollen up.”
Asked whether Rooney would be fit for Saturday’s trip to Sunderland, the Scot said: “I hope so.”
