Rooney has thanked England coach Roy Hodgson for inducting him into the national squad for the high-profile international friendly against Scotland.
Rooney was recently dropped from the Manchester United squad for the club’s pre-season friendlies, due to hamstring and shoulder problems. He also missed Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match.
The injury problems and lack of match fitness did not prevent Hodgson from picking Rooney for the national squad.
Rooney acknowledged Hodgson’s decision on his Facebook page saying: “Can’t wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland.
“Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it.”
