Wayne Rooney‘s return to form and fitness will not intimidate Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, who will be in charge of marking the English striker in the upcoming Manchester derby.
Kompany was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “No, it’s brilliant. That’s personally how I feel about it.
“I always want to play against players when they are at their best. I’m really happy for Wayne that he’s on top form.
‘This is the great thing about the Premier League, you play against top strikers all the time. But there are many players to watch out for in both teams.’
David Moyes’s track record against City had been incredible in the Premier League. Under him, Everton had recorded nine victories in twelve games.
On being asked about Moyes’s record against City, Kompany stated: “It’s a different team, it’s a different season and I would say there has never been anything too predictable in the derby.
“Nobody predicted we would win 6-1 at Old Trafford, that they would beat us at the Etihad and that we would win at Old Trafford. I guess that’s what the fans want too. It’s always a game you look forward to and I don’t think it’s just the people in Manchester, but all over the world. I feel blessed that I am able to participate in those games.”
The City captain returned to action, after suffering from a groin injury, last Tuesday in the Champions League opener against Viktoria Plzen. But he stressed on the point that they are not carried away by the easy 3-0 victory and have complete focus on Sunday’s derby clash.
