Manchester United manager David Moyes has stated that he does not want to sell striker Wayne Rooney and would like to keep him at Old Trafford.
“We don’t want to sell Wayne,” Moyes said in a press conference that was held after the Scot won his first trophy – The Community Shield – with Manchester United.
“I have not fallen out with Wayne and the reason he trained with the reserves was because he wanted to because he wasn’t allowed any contact.”
Moyes, who was the first manager Wayne Rooney worked with back at Everton, has said that despite reports, there is no rift between him and the 27-year-old.
Rooney has been called up to the England squad despite nursing an injury, and Moyes was completely supportive of the move.
“I want him to join up (with the England squad),” added Moyes.
“He trained with us yesterday (Saturday). He’s not ready, you’ll probably see that in the game. He’ll probably play a chunk of the game.
“He’s had no football. He’s had 45 minutes against Real Betis in a friendly when he hurt his shoulder. Apart from that, since the day he got back for pre-season, he’s got no match action.
“So you probably wouldn’t expect somebody in that condition to be playing for a long period.”
Chelsea have had two bids rejected for the England international so far.
