Danny Welbeck has spoken about Sir Alex Ferguson’s response to losing the title late on to City at the end of last season, with Ferguson visiting all youngsters on the coach back down from Sunderlandand speaking about the importance of the day. “I remember it well,” said Welbeck. “We were travelling home from Sunderland on the coach and he went round all the young players and said to them “Never forget this, because this will win you titles.”
By now you’re sure to be aware of the dramatic fashion that City pinched the title from United, but it seems as though, just hours after the event, Ferguson was already relishing the chance of using it to United’s advantage. Welbeck added, “He said, ‘This will make some of you into men and be the best you can be.’ When the manager says things like that to you, you really want to take note of it.It’s good motivation to have.”
