With the two-week break for the international fixtures come and gone, the whole Mourinho/Wenger spat seems to be a distant memory. Speaking this week, Arsene Wenger has express his regret at what happened.
We all have our opinion of Wenger and the Chelsea fans will know the amount of stick he gets when he comes to the Bridge. However, no matter what your view of Wenger is you simply cannot condone his very public display of frustration by shoving the boss on the touchline a few weeks ago!
To put in black and white, Wenger left his assigned technical area and encroached into Mourinho's to protest at a tackle made by Gary Cahill on Alexis Sanchez and you all are aware of what happened as a result.
Speaking this week of the "shove" and of the lead at the top of the Premier League that Chelsea have established after only seven games into the season, Wenger said:
"Too much importance was given to this story but I should not have reacted like this. I always regret any signs of violence and I apologise for it. It is massive (the gap), the nine points after seven games, I agree completely, but it is not lost.
I believe that maybe, going forward, City are a bit more complete. City are more offensive. Chelsea defensively are better but it’s very difficult to say who will be in front but what we want to do is be in front of both of them."
Considering his post-match comments, it's a remarkable change of approach from the Frenchman. It just goes to prove that no matter what he says, Jose Mourinho really gets under his skin despite the fact that he denies that he does. To be nine points clear of Arsenal this early in the season IS massive and Arsenal will do well to sustain a realistic title challenge ALL season long but I can't see it happening! What do you think of his apology and of the nine point gap?
