Berlin, Sep 18 (IANS) German football club Werder Bremen has announced the removal of head coach Viktor Skripnik following a losing streak in the Bundesliga.
The coach and his assistants Florian Kohlfeldt and Thorsten Frings have been released from all their duties "with immediate effect", Werder Bremen said in a statement on Sunday.
Under-23 coach Alexander Nouri and Florian Bruns will take the helm for the next two games against Mainz and Wolfsburg, reports Xinhua.
"We have decided to take this step because we lack in confidence after the performance in Monchengladbach," Bremen's sporting director Frank Baumann said. "We would like to thank Viktor and his assistants for their work in recent years."
The dismissal of Skripnik was just a matter of time as Bremen crashed out in the first round of the German Cup against a lower league side.
The poor performances continued in the domestic league as well, as the "Green-Whites" lost all three Bundesliga encounters. Bremen's 1-4 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday was the final straw.
"With Alexnader Nouri we hope to give the team an impetus," Baumann said.
Bremen sit on the last place of the standings with zero point.
