Turkish champions Galatasaray‘s ace midfielder Wesley Sneijder has been called up for training sessions with the Netherlands’ national team ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Andorra.
Sneijder, who had failed to find his name in the Dutch squad, was later called up as fellow teammate Georginio Wijnaldum sustained an ankle injury.
Holland coach Louis Van Gaal came to the decision after realizing Sneijder could be a better replacement for the injured Wijnaldum.
Sneijder was earlier stripped off the captaincy in June due to an injury, putting Robin van Persie at the helm as coach van Gaal believed the player should concentrate on being fully fit before returning to national duty.
In an interview, the Galatasaray playmaker had said that he felt he was being pushed down the pecking order but he said he was determined to get back stronger and do well for his club and country.
