Javier Hernandez, has certainly been one of the best buy’s ever by Sir Alex Ferguson. Hernandez was first spotted by a United scout on October, 2009 at Mexico, playing for his former club Chivas Gudalajara. It was on 8th April 2010, the young Mexican agreed to sign for United for a fee of around 7 million euros.
7 million euros?! If you’re taking that much amount into consideration for a player like Hernandez at the moment, what a bargain! Isn’t it? Hernandez had a phenomenal start to his debut season by finding the net 20 times, the second ever player at United to score 20 goals at his debut season after Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Hernandez has been one of the best buy’s last season in the Premier League. He played a key role in United’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League campaign last season scoring some vital goals. Hernandez has already been tipped as the “Baby faced assasin II”. Ofcourse, the real baby faced assasin is Solskjaer, but Hernandez has many qualities similar to Ole, his work rate, pace, ball control, positioning and mainly being the super-sub.
Hernandez had come on as a sub several times last season and has netted in most games he played. At the start of the season, it was Berbatov-Rooney who got the place in the starting line up putting Hernandez to bench. However the Little Pea worked hard to gain his place, by showing some amazing performances coming on as a sub and impressing the gaffer. Following Wayne Rooney‘s personal problems and his desire to leave United at the mid season saw him having an off form. Hernandez was the one who took over Rooney’s position at that moment, partnered Dimitar Berbatov.
Hernandez got his first Champions League goal against Valencia at the Estadio Mestalla scoring the only goal of the game, being the hero.Since then, Hernandez starting showing some incredible performances earning the love and respect from United fans and being a fan favourite. Hernandez scored his first brace for the club against Stoke City at the Brittania Stadium.
However after Rooney agreed to sign a new contract with the club, Rooney got back his place into the starting 11 along with Javier Hernandez. They both together formed a terrific duo. Hernandez played most part of the games as the “finisher” while Rooney as being “the creative heart” of the team.
Hernandez has a very good conversion rate, he scores a goal in most chances he recieve and that’s what seperates him from every other strikers. Hernandez is incredibly skilled at positioning and is brilliant in getting past his marker with his blistering pace. Just aged 23, the young Mexican is reaching his peak age, and there is a lot more to see from the Little Pea in the coming seasons. Maybe an another van Nistelrooy in the making, even though it’s too early to say that, Hernandez definitely has the factor in him to be a player of Ruud’s quality and to win a match at crucial situations just like the Dutchman.
After Ruud’s departure, United really missed that kind of striker who was skilled at positioning, a player who’s incredible at beating his marker, a striker with an amazing conversion rate. But at the moment, United are blessed to have a striker of Hernandez’s quality in the team. Unlike many other “BIG NAMES” out there in the footballing world, Hernandez is a very consistent performer who also does an amazing work at International level. He was recently the top scorer of the Gold Cup with Mexico and also got 2 goals to his name in FIFA World Cup 2010.
Rooney aged 25 and Chicharito aged just 23, both the players are reaching their peak, both look deadly and there’s a lot more to see from the young duo. However Hernandez is side-lined at the moment after suffering a concussion during training, and Sir Alex has ruled out the possibility of the Young Mexican starting at the Community Shield final against Manchester City and for the opening fixture against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
