The newly appointed manager of Chelsea: Jose Mourinho recently stated that the title of Barclays Premier League 2013/14 will have 6 strong contenders.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal,Tottenham Hotspur,Liverpool
The way i see it , it will always be like last three yearsMan Utd, Man City and Chelsea all with chances to win but Chelsea pose a bigger threat than Manchester City this timeManchester United will stay favouritesChelsea look like they will pose a much larger threat than last time with them having a stronger team and perhaps a better manager. If the Cavani bid is successful it will mean no torres +40 m . That is more than 60m. Torres was bought for 60 m and despite him playing as well as a player whose transfer price may be one tenth of his, Chelsea wont sell him for anything less than 22m. 20m minimum. Cavani could go either way. He could become a star transfer, or another 60m, which if it had been thrown in the dumpster would be as useful. (Yes, I am referring to Fernando Torres)Manchester City, i am a bit doubtful, no transfer targets, nothing really strong, new manager, who may or may not be cut out for the premier league.Mourinho just likes to run his mouth, seeking attention.Tottenham and Arsenal still dont stand a chance. And not liverpool either. They will still compete for the final CL spot. The outcome however, the most likely one will be Arsenal for fourth place, Tottenham for fifth. The sixth position, probably will be contested between the 2 Liverpool clubs. I go with Liverpool FC this time. Everton get seventh due to the absence of David Moyes, who is a brilliant manager as per me.Then again, Newcastle cannot be forgotten. Just because they had a disappointing season, doesn’t mean they wont get back into form. Maybe they snatch fifth position. However it is highly unlikely and the end of the 2013/14 Premier League season will be relatively same. Maybe Chelsea go on to clinch the title and Man Utd come second. That is a likely possibility but the odds certainly favour Man Utd to clinch the title second time in a row, and for the 21st time overall. The beauty of this league, however does not lie only in the top flight. In India, people dont follow matches of West Brom, Swansea City and so ESPN and Star Sports do not broadcast their matches. Even the race for spots 8-10 are highly competetive. Heck, even at the bottom of the table, the race to avoid relegation is very very competetive. That is the beauty of the Barclays Premier League.
What might also happen is that Arsenal come third. Arsene Wenger does have the biggest transfer tally in Arsenal history. 117m to be exact. If it goes well spent, they might just get that third spot. As of now, Manchester City look like weaklings, with odds in favor of Tevez leaving for as low as 7m leaving a gap in that forward role. Lets face it, Sergio Aguero is no Messi and can be compared to the likes of Benzema at most. The center midfield is to weak. At least as per European standards. Edin Dzeko did not live up to his expectations, not even close for someone who wa sbought for 40m. Yes, David Silva is good, so is Nasri but if Arsenals 117m go well spent then i am expecting some serious competition from the gunners. Yes, some people would say that Man City’s new manager has not been appointed as yet, but so hasnt David Moyes,(well at least officially) in fact he is away on holiday! But Manchester United already completed the signing of Varela and have already laid out a few possible targets. Now let us look at Tottenham, if Bale leaves , he will be bought for a record transfer fee, in which three fourth will be expected to go to the transfer funds. The problem is however Bale was three fourth of Tottenham, and the only person who could replace Bale, and is available is Rooney. So my avice is, Bale will go, so why not just do it now and buy Rooney. However, if Rooney wants to go into a top champions league playing club this would not be possible. However if he wants money, and PSG are offering 220,000 a week but Monaco are offering 250,000 he should still take PSG. 220,000 is ample salary and PSG are easily one of Europe’s top 8. However if Rooney insists 250,000 then Tottenham should pay half of their budget for Rooney and offer him the same amount he should choose Tottenham.Well who knows what will happen
My expectation for top 7
1. Manchester United
2. Chelsea
3. Manchester City/Arsenal
4. same as 4
5. Tottenham
6. Liverpool FC
7. Everton
* Newcastle do not look strong as of now but that could easily change. Everton, or Liverpool or even Tottenham might fail into making it into the Top 8
