Well, I am certainly not a football pundit or a retired professional, but a football fan. If you ever want to know the meaning of words like love, passion, dedication, joy, sorrow, and loyalty (not always), then ask a fan, as he has experienced it all! But right now I am sad because my team is not playing well and even a not-so-intelligent person would point out the mistakes in the Manchester United lineup. It’s hard to think of a valid reason for Sir Alex Ferguson’s inclination to repeat the same mistakes that have cost him two losses in the side’s opening six games. Though I am not criticizing SAF’s tactics (and I am not the best person in the world to do that), here are some of my suggestions that could prove fruitful for Manchester United.
1.Frequent use of Buttner
Alex Buttner has been considered as the third or fourth best left-back in his country, and was suggested by the media to be a panic buy this summer. However, he performed brilliantly in his debut for Manchester United against Wigan, scoring a goal and providing a assist while simultaneously keeping the left flank tight. He can prove to be the right man for a job which seemed to be ‘exclusive’ for Evra, who in turn has seen his form hit a massive dip. However, frequent use of Alex Buttner may force Evra to step up his efforts to remain the first choice left back at Manchester United!
2. A young winger
Though there’s no need to buy one as we have enough quality in our youth squad like Davide Petrucci, Robbie Brady and even ‘Kiko’ Macheda in emergency conditions, Nani has been continuously testing the patience of every United fan with his performances. The recent news of Nani’s feud with Petrucci during training has given Sir Alex a reason strong enough to offload Nani, and it could possibly happen in the January transfer window. With the given stock of wingers we have right now, the likes of James Rodriguez, Nicolas Gaitan, etc. may tempt Sir Alex to splash the cash in the coming transfer window as a replacement for Nani.
3. Central Defender
This is the most preliminary requirement at Manchester United, with Nemanja Vidic out with injury, and neither Chris Smalling nor Phil Jones available to fill the void left by him. Jonny Evans, though not seriously injured and set to return soon, is still not mature enough for a regular role in the United defence. Therefore, there’s a certain need to buy a defender of some quality who can take the job (yes, I am missing John O’Shea now). Someone like Thiago Silva or Vincent Kompany is required, and though there has been news recently of veteran Frenchman Mikael Silvestre’s return to Manchester United, it seems hard to imagine SAF seeing him in his long term plans. We hope that SAF is aware of the problem, and can find a solution to it soon!
According to me the above three problems can hinder the ‘glory campaign’ of Manchester United this season. However, if we are able to overcome these, then we can go on and win a couple of trophies to compensate for the previous season!
