Midfielders
Jay Spearing
Jay Spearing seemed to have a really bright future at Liverpool, enjoying an excellent end to the 2010-11 season under Kenny Dalglish. Unfortunately though, the midfielder struggled over the following seasons and ended up being loaned and eventually sold to Bolton Wanderers.
Spearing played well at the Reebok Stadium, even becoming the captain of Bolton. He would move around the EFL, with a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers, and eventually joined League One side Blackpool, where he is currently.
Christian Poulsen
Christian Poulsen was a disappointing signing for Liverpool, another one made by Roy Hodgson. The Danish midfielder is not the first, nor the last, player to drift away from the club when Kenny Dalglish took over as manager. he was sold to Evian that summer.
Poulsen would move the Amsterdam, where he won two consecutive league titles with Ajax, before moving to former club Copenhagen, where he finished his career. The former Danish international had a decent career, with his time at Anfield being a particular low point.
Jonjo Shelvey
Current Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey made his first start for Liverpool in this game against Napoli, as an 18-year-old. He had an average time at Anfield, scoring a few big goals, particularly in the Europa League.
The English midfielder joined Swansea City in 2013, where he had his fair share of controversies. Shelvey would move to Newcastle in 2016 to try and save them from relegation. While he couldn't do that, he is now an important part of Rafa Benitez's Magpies squad.
