Manchester United Boss, Sir Alex is still hunting for that play maker who would set the tone of the match right from the word “Go”. The Red Devils Boss who is into his 26th year at Old Trafford is looking to bolster the midfield like never before. Here are some of the names who have been linked with for a move to Old Trafford.
Lucas Moura
Man Utd has so far failed in both the allotted bids for the Brazilian wonder kid Lucas Moura. The Red Devils have already signed Japanese international Shinji Kagawa and Crewe starlet Nick Powell and looking to bolster the midfield with the addition of 19year old Moura. Lacking a powerful name in the midfield in the absence of Giggs, Carrick and Scholes, Man Utd would falter at any point of time. This is one major reason why the Boss is in search of young and talented midfielder who will provide the much needed weight to the midfield. The scouting team has been saddened after the Brazilian club Sao Paolo rejected both the bid offers with the highest bid being £29million. This transfer can really be a big hit at Old Trafford as the South American has got the proficiency by which he can outplay any defense. Hopes have rekindled as the 19 year old Moura have told his agent to keep negotiating looking at Manchester United’s vested interest in him.
Wagner Ribeiro, Lucas Moura’s agent stated: He [Lucas] told me to keep negotiating when I talked about Manchester United’s interest.
United will bid farewell to the Bulgarian star, Dimitar Berbatov in few days. So to partner Chicharito, Rooney and Wellbeck upfront, the Red Devils have also made a bid for the Arsenal captain and Dutch superstar Robin Van Persie. After RVP didn’t renew his contract with the Gunners, there have been many offers for him from other club sides too. Manchester United made a bid of £10million for the Dutchman which has already been rejected.
Does Sir Alex really need RVP at Old Trafford? He might have been the top scorer last season but Old Trafford is the right place for him or not only time will tell. If Sir Alex really wanted Van Persie at Old Trafford isn’t it obvious the bid price to be more than £10million for the last year’s top scorer? RVP have been also linked with Juventus and the BPL winners Manchester City. So let’s see where this wait-n-watch game takes us to and where Van Persie eventually signs a new contract with.
“He is a world class player and we do not want to give him away,” said Chairman Peter Hill-Wood, according to Sky Sports. “If he is determined to leave then that is up to him, but giving him away is not on our agenda.”
Joao Moutinho
Manchester United, who are looking to build a well-built midfield before the start of the fresh season, are eyeing the Portuguese international Joao Moutinho. Moutinho currently plays for Portuguese football club FC Porto and he is believed to be worth around £20-25 million. Portuguese superstar Ronaldo had a wonderful time with the Red Devils and matured as a player at Old Trafford. On the other hand another star player Nani is having a wonderful time with the club. So it will be a home for another Portuguese if everything goes on fine with this expected deal.
This Porto playmaker having played amazing football for his country in the recently concluded Euro Cup is being considered one of the brightest prospects in world football. He has been strongly linked to the wealthiest sports club throughout the summer transfer window. The Scottish Boss believes this Portuguese will be the ideal player to fill in the boots of Scholes’ play making duties. The chase is on for Moutinho between Man Utd and Tottenham, who are also after this playmaker.
Porto wants £26million as a transfer fee for Moutinho and it is believed Sir Alex Ferguson has made an initial offer of £20 million as per The Times.
“AVB is one of the best coaches I’ve worked with,” Moutinho declared. “I’d work with him again tomorrow.”
So will Moutinho come to Old Trafford or will he opt for AVB and move to Spurs?
If everything goes as per the plan let’s check this option. How about a midfield comprising of Giggs/Scholes in the middle, Valencia on the right, Moura on his favored left wing position and Kagawa as an attacking midfielder and also playing as the ball supplier as well as scoring goals. Kagawa has already scored his first goal for his new club. Carrick and Scholes will be instrumental as they have always been as the holding duo. If Moutinho comes into the team he will do what he is best at and honing the role of the play maker.
It’s up to Fergie that he will go with which format of the game. Here are few options which he might opt for.
Option 1: 4-2-3-1
The current “IN” formation in world football is the 4-2-3-1. This system is a combo of control, defensive stability and attacking prowess. This should be the ideal formation of the team this season with what Sir Alex is planning to tackle every opposition that comes his way.
Option 2: 4-4-1-1
This formation was applied last season and if the Boss sticks to the same formation yet again this is also applicable to the current squad.
Option 3: 4-5-1 is also a preferred option.
We will really have to wait too see what is going to happen with the transfers that Fergie has been eyeing for this season. Will we see Moura and Moutinho in the midfield at the Old Trafford with Kagawa, Scholes, Valencia, Giggs, Nani, Young and Carrick or someone else? Many United fans are hoping RVP to be playing upfront, so will it be a pairing of Rooney and Van Persie or Rooney and Chicharito and Wellbeck again?
Fergie will have plenty of options to look at and for the first time he can actually have a very attacking midfield if everything goes on as per plans. We all Manchester United fans are hoping Sir Alex Ferguson to change the dynamics of the team.
