Why Demba Ba on loan to Arsenal is a huge mistake

Chelsea are rumoured to be considering loaning Demba Ba to Arsenal.

Negotiations are rumoured to be going on with negotiations over the fee with Chelsea looking to recoup £3m for the season and Arsenal looking to pay half that amount.

Selling players to your rivals has always been something you do at your peril, just ask Arsenal fans how it felt to see Robin Van Persie lifting the Premier League trophy with Manchester United.

We already ran this gauntlet with Yossi Benayoun who contributed to a good season for Arsenal where they finished above us.

This is a dangerous game to play, a sale at the right price would be tolerable but a loan opens up a range of issues, particularly if the player is to play for Chelsea again in the future.

Loaning Demba Ba to Arsenal would strengthen their team and give them a much better chance of challenging at the top of the table. This is not something we should do on a loan basi,s particularly if he has a good season at the Emirates.

What if his goals fire Arsenal to fourth place, or in an extreme example challenge for the title, do we really want the goals of one of our players giving our rivals a chance to usurp us.

I am not too worried if Ba leaves but loaning to Arsenal just makes no sense.
