Why do Manchester United need Ronaldo?

It’s that time of the year when the football fans all over the world start believing in the romantic aspect of football. Manchester United fans dream of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the Theatre of Dreams, Arsenal fans want Cesc Fabregas back whereas the Liverpool fans want Xabi Alonso to come back and help them secure a Champions League berth.

Recently, Ronaldo tweeted something that set the transfer market ablaze. He denied every speculation about him reaching an agreement with the Real Madrid board. It is likely that Ronaldo did this to force Perez into increasing his wages, but let’s not try and break the mancunian hearts. Maybe Ronaldo tried to push the transfer deal and maybe he’s trying to stage a heroic comeback. Anyway, his return can help United achieve European success next season. Here is a look on the things he brings to the side:

Variation in Attack: Lately, United have been dependent on Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney for goals. Every time Carrick has an off game, United seem to struggle. Cristiano’s presence would rule this out. He’s a match winner and can get you goals from seemingly impossible scenarios. We’ll have another incredible source of goals and the trio upfront can wreak havoc on oppositions.

United’s Traditional Wing-Play: Manchester United is known for their wing-play. Over the years, United have produced tremendous wingers who get goals and assist quite a few. Last season, United fans saw the brilliance of Valencia and Ashley Young. Valencia has been contacted by Nasa. Apparently, Nasa want to use his first touch to develop a new technology to launch satellites into space. Young has found everything but players with his crosses. If not for the prolific goal scoring forms of our strikers, United would have had a tough time this season. Ronaldo would add a new dimension to the wing-play. The famous Rooney-Ronaldo link-up would be enough to send shivers down the opposition’s spines.

A Sign of Intent: Sir Alex Ferguson has been at the pinnacle of everything good at Manchester United. His retirement last season marked an end to the 26-year-long legacy of the Scot. David Moyes is all set to take over and United need to send a signal of intent. Signing Ronaldo would be a great move as it send a great message across to the rivals who are expected a change of fate for the Champions.

Morale of the Squad: The presence of a player of Ronaldo’s stature would do wonders at Manchester United. When the players go on the field with Ronaldo amidst them, the confidence would be sky-high. With that amount of confidence, they might even take down every opposition.

Manchester United don’t need Cristiano Ronaldo but they’ll be more than just happy to have him in the team. Cristiano Ronaldo has suffered enough at Real Madrid. It’s time for the Portuguese international to come back to the club that loves him. While the media is busy speculating the proceedings of the transfer, somewhere in Scotland, a Scott has a huge grin on his face.
