After Chelsea’s previous match against Manchester United, Jose Mourinho made it clear that Fernando Torres was not worth the 50 million pounds Chelsea had spent to acquire him. Mourinho is eager to sign current Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and is willing to sell Torres and Demba Ba as the former Real Madrid boss is unhappy with the duo’s performances.
Fernando Torres’ recent performances have been extremely disappointing and his departure could be beneficial for Chelsea as they could sign Rooney or other top-notch striker like Luiz Suarez. Mourinho stated that Chelsea was in the hunt for some good strikers. It would be a good choice for Torres to bid farewell to Chelsea or else his career could be jeopardized.
The new Chelsea manager has been keeping Torres on the bench. The only team that has shown some interest in Torres, thus far, is Valencia.
Liverpool is another option for El Nino and he will be a fan favourite at Anfield as his best performances, till date, were at Liverpool. Torres’ goal for Chelsea in the Europa League final was one of the few memorable moments he had at the club and Jose Mourinho was spot on when he said, “He scored the goal that won the Europa League. That means some millions. He scored the goal against Everton that put Chelsea in the Champions League. That also means some millions.”
He was not trying to endorse the beleagured Spanish international. Instead, Mourinho was trying to lure prospective buyers for the Spaniard.
Is it possible for Torres to reproduce the magic he once carried out at Anfield or will such a possibility remain a chimera? Only Torres will have the answers. One thing is for sure – he has to leave Chelsea!
