Why Polish fans waited outside the stadium for Scotland fans after Euro qualifier

Scotland played Poland in Warsaw’s National Stadium in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Tuesday night. The match ended 2-2 with Krzysztof Maczynski and Arkadiusz Milik scoring for Poland while Shaun Maloney and Steven Naismith scoring for the Scots.

It was a match with an amazing atmosphere, and even Scotland boss Gordon Strachan said: “We are pleased that we dealt with a game with a fantastic crowd, fantastic atmosphere, as good as you’ll see in international football.”

But it’s what happened after the game that has become a major talking point.

Normally, the away fans are not allowed to leave until the home fans have left to avoid any untoward incidents between rival supporters. But in this case, the Polish fans stayed back.

Why? To applaud the Scottish fans for creating an awesome atmosphere inside the stadium.

Polish fans are generally known to be a little rough, but that didn’t stop them from respecting and thanking their rivals after the game.

It was a game that ended in a draw, but both the Polish fans and the Tartan Army will go back home as winners.
