Dazet Wilfried Armel Zaha, 20 (born 10 November 1992), commonly known as Wilfried Zaha, is an English footballer who plays for Crystal Palace, as a winger and a striker.
Wilfried Zaha started his youth career with Crystal Palace in 2002. In 2010–11 pre-season friendlies, he progressed very well there, and soon became a key player in the team. He scored his first senior goal in a 3-2 win over Leicester City on the opening day of the 2010-11 season and continued to impress everyone out there.
Wilfried Zaha was called up to the England’s Under-19 in 2011, and was soon called up for the under 21s as well, by impressing all with his play. Without taking too much time, Zaha earned his place in the senior squad in a friendly match against Sweden, in Nov 2012. Zaha was eligible to represent both Côte d’Ivoire and England, the former because it was where he was born, and the latter because it is where he grew up
Zaha impressed everyone in Crystal Palace’s 2–1 shock win over Manchester United in the League Cup. He is a good player who has some great skills and ability to create chances very well. He is a well established player, but still needs to develop the mental side of his game. Zaha is quick, tricky, creative in the game.
At the end of the 2011-12 season, Zaha was voted the Football League’s Young Player of the Year and Crystal Palace awarded him their Young Player of the Year for a second year in a row.
In 2012, Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway said about Zaha:
“He is so unique. He is an untouched, pure talent. I’ve never worked with anyone like him, he just wants to get the ball and beat people. It is quite unbelievable what he can do, and hopefully, a lot of fans around the country will see him still progress because it is so pure. You just want to give him the ball. I find myself willing my other players to give it to him because the more he has it, the better my team does.”
Wilfriend Zaha is one of the hottest young talents in England at the moment. Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham were some of the big names that were reportedly after the 20-year-old for a £10-12 million deal, but reports suggest that Manchester United is leading of them all.
Zaha reportedly wrote: “Looks like I’m on my way to the top of the premier league” on his Twitter account but has since deleted the post. But later, he denied posting the message: “I don’t know [sic] remember tweeting no such thing so I don’t know where the tweet came from #confused”.
But David Gill, the Chief Executive of the Manchester United said on Zaha:
“He is one of the players that we are looking at. That is all I will say at the moment. I’ve been in football long enough to say that its not done until it’s done. He’s one of the players we are looking at, but it is far from done. Even if we did do something with Wilfried that would be for the summer”
Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has resisted any moves for the youngster mid-way through the season, and Palace would insist that Zaha remains at the club at least till the end of this season.
Arsene Wenger also admits he is interested in Wilfried Zaha saying:
“We are looking at him, but at the moment we have not made any bid for him.”
Don’t know why Manchester United is looking for a striker/winger because they currently have great forwards like van Persie, Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito, Nani etc. Is someone leaving Man Utd and so they are forced to look for a replacement? You can’t say that at the moment, but if it is true, then Nani has high chances of leaving the club as he’s been linked with other clubs since the start of the season, mainly because of his poor performances this season. But Sir Alex has already told that he won’t be selling Nani.
One thing is for sure – if Wilfried Zaha comes to United, then it will boost the club, and probably it would be the best striking force in the world.
