As if the misery currently plaguing Arsenal fans isn’t enough at the moment, what with another dispiriting 1-1 draw to Crystal Palace ruling them out of the title race, Jack Wilshere has added to that by mistakenly using a Manchester United image while tweeting an ‘inspirational’ image, which resulted in Twitter piling further misery on the Arsenal man.
Arsenal led Crystal Palace by a solitary goal for much of the game, but keeping in line with Arsenal’s season so far, the Gunners conceded a late goal in the 82nd minute, with Petr Cech at fault for not stopping Yannick Bolasie’s long range drive at his near post. The result meant that Arsenal came off to boos, with the Gunners now 13 points of the pace with only 15 points left to play for in the season.
It seemed the perfect opportunity for Wilshere to tweet a message of inspiration to uplift the legions of Arsenal fans that follow him, and when the perenially injured Arsenal man tweeted the following image, it all seemed perfectly fine at first glance.
Look closer at the silhouette near the bottom and Jack Wilshere’s blunder becomes clear. The Arsenal man used an image with the sihouettes of the statues of Manchester United’s holy trinity of Denis Law, George Best and Bobby Charlton, who stand outside of Old Trafford.
Predictably, Twitter reacted with typical scorn, as Jack Wilshere was roundly battered by United fans for his gaffe, with most noting that the Arsenal midfielder will not live this error down in a hurry.
It’s been a rather miserable season for Wilshere,as he has suffered from a long-term injury that has resulted in him being unavailable for Arsenal this season, although the Englishman could be inline to face the Gunner’s next opponents, West Brom.
