Winger Pedro says he's unhappy with role in Spain squad

Madrid, June 20 (IANS) Spain winger Pedro Rodriguez made some shock declarations on Monday when he said he was unhappy with the peripheral role he is playing in the squad at the ongoing European football championship.

Speaking in an interview on Spanish TV station '#0' from the Spanish training camp just a day before Spain's last group match against Croatia, the Chelsea player said he was disappointed at the lack of game time he was getting and openly discussed renouncing playing for the national side in future, reports Xinhua.

The 28-year-old played eight minutes of Spain' s 1-0 win over Czech Republic, but failed to appear in the 3-0 triumph over Turkey on Friday night.

"I had other perspectives when I came here and they have not been what I wanted," said Pedro in his interview.

The Canary Island born player has been a fixture in the Spain squad since 2010, making 59 appearances and scoring 12 goals and admitted it was difficult to watch from the sidelines.

"It is very hard for me to assure this role and if I don' t see some continuity in playing, it isn' t worthwhile me coming just to be part of the squad and to spend time with my companions," he said in declarations which are unlikely to be well received by chief coach Vicente del Bosque, who picked him ahead of other players such as Atletico Madrid' s in-form Saul Niguez.
