Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will be disciplined for the offensive gesture that the goalkeeper made following his sending off during the midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, telling reporters that the club will deal with the Pole internally.
Szczesny was sent off for bringing down Bayern’s Arjen Robben in a decision that proved a major turning point in the 2-0 defeat, before making the gesture as he made his way down the tunnel.
Wenger defended his player, putting the gesture down to frustration, but confirmed that the goalkeeper will face disciplinary proceedings at the club.
“It was frustration but we are professionals, me included, and we have always to master our reactions,” said the Gunners boss.
“Wojciech is part of that as well. We’ll deal with that internally. We don’t agree with that.”
Uefa may also decide to take action against the Polish international and could choose to extend his one game ban. Lukas Fabianski deputised for Szczesny following the sending off and is likely to do so again in Munich.
