The first FIFA World Cup occurred in 1930 in Uruguay. Thirteen teams (seven from South America, four from Europe, and two from North America) played in the first-ever FIFA World Cup. The 13 teams were divided into 4 groups, one containing 4 teams and the other 3 consisting of 3 teams each.
The winners of each group would advance to the Semi-Finals and the final four teams would play the Semi-Finals and Finals in the traditional knockout stages format. Uruguay, the host nation, found itself facing Argentina in the final of the 1930 FIFA World Cup, which was coincidentally a repeat of the 1928 Olympic Final.
In the final, Argentina saw themselves leading at halftime owing to goals by Peucelle and Stabile, but Uruguay turned the game on its head in the second half. Second-half goals by Cea, Iriarte, and Castro saw Uruguay turn the 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 win to win the first-ever FIFA World Cup.

FIFA Trophies
The trophy presented to FIFA World Cup winners between 1930 and 1970 was called the Jules Rimet Trophy. In 1970, when Brazil won the FIFA World Cup for the third time, they were presented with the trophy permanently.
After 1970, a new trophy called the FIFA World Cup Trophy was made. This trophy was not to be provided to any team permanently. The new trophy is 36 cm tall and made of solid 18-carat gold. It weighs 6.175 kgs.
The current winners get the trophy for the post-game celebrations and the players are awarded medals with the insignia of the World Cup trophy. Since 2006, winners of the FIFA World Cup are also entitled to wear the FIFA Champions Badge till the next winner is decided.
