3. 1962 World Cup, Chile: Brazil 2-0 Mexico
The third meeting between these nations took place 8 years after Brazil had fired 5 past Mexico as once again both these teams were drawn into the same group.
Brazil came into this World Cup searching for their second World Cup after they had won the previous one in 1954 courtesy of a certain 17-year old Pele scoring a brace in a 5-2 victory over Sweden. With World Cup winners Gilmar, Djalma Santos, Mauro Ramos, Zito, Niton Santos, Garrincha, Zozimo, Pepe, Bellini, Vava, Zagallo and a certain Pele in their squad the Brazilians were top favourites to retain the 1958 World Cup while the Mexicans entered this tournament in search of their first-ever victory in World Cup after they earned their first ever point after drawing against Wales in the 1958 World Cup.
In a match that saw Brazil scoring the lesser number of goals compared to the previous two, Brazil defeated Mexico 2-0 to earn their 3rd victory in this fixture as the future manager Mario Zagallo and, arguably the greatest ever player in the World, Pele scoring the second one for Brazil.
Brazil finished the 1962 World Cup as the victors for the second time running.
