Xabi Alonso had been missing out of Real Madrid’s line-up due to a groin and a foot injury and made his first appearance for the club in 165 days. The 31-year-old’s contract is set to expire next year and so he has said that he is now fit and is ready to talk about a new contract with his club.
Alonso came in as a substitute during the second half as Real Madrid’s destroyed Sevilla 7-3 on Thursday. He said, “Now is the moment to begin to talk to the club about my future. While I was not fit I did not feel up to talking. I have good communication with the club.”
The Spaniard spoke on the reception he received as he entered as a substitute for Asier Illaramendi and said, “I am very grateful for the affection and respect from the crowd.
“I value that a lot. On a personal level I am very happy as it has been five months. I have no problems and I hope to slowly get there to be able to help the team,” concluded the former Liverpool midfielder.
