Today’s Ridiculous Rumour of the Day is from the Metro who claim Xavi could be on his way to Man United.
The Spanish legend was quoted as saying: “It’s difficult to finish your career at Barcelona… I don’t know if I’ll end up finishing my career here.”
For some reason, that was taken that Xavi was hinting at a move to David Moyes’ seventh-placed Man Utd.
Xavi was linked to United earlier in the season when reports swirled around the media that Moyes was looking for a central midfielder.
As a product of the youth setup at Barcelona, Xavi has never played for another club, and at 33, he is approaching the final years of his playing career. With talents such as Sergi Roberto lurking in the shadows at the Nou Camp, Xavi made the comments to suggest it may be difficult for him to carry on playing for the Spanish giants. Perhaps one would assume his comments mean it would be hard to carry on playing late into his 30s as it may stop the progression of young talent, like Roberto, as the philosophy at Barcelona is to promote youth within.
Xavi is currently contracted to Barcelona until 2016 which, by the end of his deal, would make him 36-years of age and would surely be the right age to retire while still at the club.
Xavi has created 19 chances this season for Barca, getting one assist. He has created more chances than Alexis Sanchez (17).
