Rumour: Xavi linked with an unlikely move to the MLS

Xavi

Today’s Ridiculous Rumour of the Day is brought to you by AS, in Spain, who claim Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls approached Xavi, a few weeks ago, in an attempt to sign him.

The Spanish midfield legend recently spoke about his future at Barcelona, stating that it may be difficult for him to finish his career with the Spanish giants.

He said: “Being tied to Barcelona is a privilege, but I don’t know what will happen in the future.”

AS claim New York Red Bulls – whom Thierry Henry plays for – approached Xavi in a bid to persuade him to join the MLS side. If true – which is unlikely – it is an extremely ambitious effort from the American club.

They did sign Henry from Barcelona a couple of years ago but signing Xavi would be a huge deal as the Spaniard is still a guaranteed starter for Barcelona and a key component of their sumptuously successful team.

Xavi has enjoyed over 15 years in the Barcelona first-team and has been at the club his entire career. It would be extremely difficult for him to leave, especially at this stage of his career where he is still one of the most important players in the team.

Xavi, not surprisingly, has an incredible 92% average pass accuracy so far this season.
