MADRID (AFP) –
Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez will extend his contract with the Catalan giants until 2016, the Spanish league leaders announced on Wednesday.
“The midfielder will extend his deal on Monday. He will sign a new contract that will keep him at the club until June, 2016,” Barcelona said on its website.
Xavi’s new deal is the third secured with key players at the club.
Veteran central defender Carles Puyol penned a new contract, also until 2016, on Tuesday while Lionel Messi committed himself until 2018 at the end of December.
However, goalkeeper Victor Valdes said this week that he will not be renewing his agreement with Barcelona.
