Africa have produced their fair share of talented footballers over the last decade and one of the leaders of this esteemed pack is Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure.
Toure who was born on May 13th 1983 (Please remember his birthday he gets grouchy if you don’t) has really blossomed since his move from Barcelona to Manchester City back in 2010 and is regarded one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. The 31-year-old scored a ridiculous 24 goals from midfield last season which helped Manchester City win their second Premier League title in the process.
It certainly has been a long way to the top for Toure, the reigning African Player Of the Year, who played for several small European clubs before he attracted the attention of AS Monaco in 2006 where he established himself as a top class holding midfielder. Toure’s exploits at Monaco caught the attention of La Liga giants FC Barcelona who signed him up in 2007.
The 31-year-old remained with the Catlans for three years, winning a host of trophies along the way, before being transferred to Manchester City for £24 million in 2010 where he truly blossomed and continues to do so.
Manchester City are known to pay their players exorbitant sums of money and Toure is no different. The Ivory coast international, who has an estimated net worth of $70 million, signed a new four year contract with City last April and currently earns around $15 million per year in salaries along with other bonuses.
Toure also has a sponsorship deal with German sportswear manufacturer Puma which earns him an estimated $2, 50,0000 a year. The midfielder is actively involved in charities that help his native Africa and regularly donates money to such causes. In fact Toure persuaded his main sponsor Puma to distribute apparel to the underprivileged kids in Africa.
The midfielder is currently involved in a dispute with City due to their supposed mistreatment of him but until then all he’s going to see is green.
