Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has revealed the secrets to his success – meticulous preparation. The Ivory Coast midfielder told The Sun that he is a student of the game and is always looking back on his performances for areas of improvement. Likening football to a science, Toure said that the game is a “scientific code” that he is trying to “crack.”
Former Barcelona midfielder Toure said; “I’m a fanatic of this game and constantly looking for explanations, like a professor who wants to constantly complete his knowledge.”
“For me, football is primarily a science – if you do not understand it, you cannot reach the highest level.
Toure has arguably reached the highest level himself, winning the Premier League in 2012 to add to the honours achieved with Barcelona. He was this week named African footballer of the year, and continued:
“It’s like physicists who try to crack a scientific code. I’m trying to break all the mysteries of football, that’s what keeps me going.”
The 30 year old has been in scintillating form this season, helping his Manchester City side to third place in the Premier League. Toure has scored five goals this season amongst a series of marauding performances from central midfield. Forming a solid partnership with Fernandinho, he is likely to be key if City are to continue “understanding the science” at the highest levels of the game.
Toure has made more passes than any other Premier League player this season.
