Zambia welcome Chad to the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Friday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ranked 93rd in the world, the Copper Bullets are looking to build on their last win and bolster their qualifying hopes.
After starting their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast, they edged out Sierra Leone in a narrow 3-2 win courtesy of an 85th-minute winner from Kings Kangwa.
With three points in the bag, Avram Grant's side are second in the Group G table behind only Ivory Coast, who have a 100% win record in the group thus far.
For this month's Chad fixtures, the southern African side has called up 25 players to the squad, including midfielder Kings Kangwa. Denmark-based Lubambo Musonda will lead the side out as their captain.
Defensive pair David Bulaya and Peter Kalota, as well as Israel-based Chipyoka Songa, are the only three players currently uncapped in the Zambian side. They will be hoping to earn their maiden appearances this month.
On the other hand, their rivals from north Africa are looking to pick up their first win of the campaign, and perhaps, score their first goals too. Les Sao drew their opening game 0-0 with Sierra Leone, before going down 2-0 to Ivory Coast.
As they have only one point in the bag, with a goal-difference of -2, Kevin Nicaise's side are at the bottom of the standings, and their hopes of reaching a first AFCON tournament are fast dissipating.
Zambia vs Chad Head-To-Head and Key Numbers
- Interestingly, this will just be their third encounter in history.
- In their previous two games, the Chipolopolo won 2-0 before the sides drew 1-1, with both games coming as part of their 2008 AFCON qualifiers.
- Zambia have won just one of their last seven games, although that win came in their most recent outing: a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in the ongoing AFCON qualifiers.
- Les Sao are winless in their last four official clashes, losing three; they even failed to score in all of them.
- The Copper Bullets are ranked 93rd in the world; their rivals are 84 places below them.
Zambia vs Chad Prediction
Neither side have really impressed in the 2024 calendar year, losing plenty of games on their fixture list. Their qualifying campaigns have not been particularly smooth either, especially for the away side in this fixture. We expect Zambia to claim a narrow win.
Prediction: Zambia 1-0 Chad
