Zenit St. Petersburg beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 in Russian Super Cup

Moscow, July 24 (IANS) FC Zenit St. Petersburg snatched a confident 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow in a 2016 Russia Super Cup football match at the Lokomotiv stadium here.

Mauricio scored the only goal in the 22nd minute for the St. Petersburg team on Saturday, reports Tass.

Zenit have become the four-time holder of the Russian Super Cup title, winning it in 2008, 2011 and 2015.

In the meantime, CSKA won in the Russian Super Cup six times (in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2014). Two-time holders of the title were FC Lokomotiv Moscow in 2003 and 2005 and FC Rubin Kazan in 2010 and 2012.

Zenit head coach Mircea Lucescu led the team to the victory.

Since 2003 the Russian Super Cup is a one-match competition between the winners in the Russian Premier League and the Russian Cup.
