Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he had already made his decision on his future course of action and where he will ply his trade next season. The Swedish striker had run down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain this season and is currently a free agent. He had his best ever season in 2015/16 having scored 50 goals in all competitions, including 38 in Ligue 1 alone.
Many media reports have claimed that Manchester United are hot on the heels of the 34-year-old front man. With Jose Mourinho set to take over the hot seat at Old Trafford, the reports have gathered more steam since the Portuguese boss is one of few managers Ibrahimovic has a lot of respect for.
Speaking at a press conference today, Ibrahimovic said: “I have concrete offers from England, Italy, from all countries.” Offers have come in from American teams such as LA Galaxy in the MLS and also clubs in the Middle East.
“The future is already written. I have made my choice,” he said without revealing what his final decision was.
When Ibrahimovic was asked about the prospect of Mourinho taking over from Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, he said: “It’s a great move. If you want action, you bring in Mourinho,” he explained.
Ibrahimovic spent three years at the San Siro in the colours of Inter Milan between 2006 and 2009. He won three league titles with the Nerazzurri, two with Mourinho who took over in 2008.
“I have missed working with Mourinho every day since I left Inter,” the striker said of his relationship with his former manager.
Ibrahimovic refuses to confirm links to Manchester United
Ibrahimovic was then asked directly if he was close to a move to the Red Devils. After laughing for a few seconds, he simply said: “Let’s see what happens.”
According to reports, the club have already had talks with his agent Mino Raiola. The striker had reportedly asked for a contract that paid him £220,000 per week. The deal would cost the 20-time league champions approximately £11.4m a year.
But considering the fact that Ibrahimovic is still at his peak and will come on a free transfer, United would not be held back by his wages. They already pay Wayne Rooney close to £300,00 per week. The other high earners in the squad include Bastian Schweinsteiger and David De Gea.
