Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a pretty impressive match against the Faroe Islands, having scored both goals in Sweden’s 2-0 victory. But the night ended on a sour note with many Faroe players coming forward with complaints about how the striker’s trash talked.
Apparently, the night revealed a little more than Ibrahimovic’s natural talents. The PSG forward’s uglier side was exposed when it was revealed that he was continuously referring to his opponents as “a bunch of fisherman” and rubbing their faces on how much he earns per year. An exasperated Simun Samuelsen, Faroe’s striker, retorted back saying: “Yes, we fish. It’s part of our culture. So what?”
Samuelsen couldn’t fathom why a player of Ibrahimovic’s calibre felt the need to get kicks out of belittling players from Faroe Islands. A good question indeed.
HB Torshavn forward was quoted as telling Marca:
“Zlatan is such a good player, we don’t understand why he is in such a bad mood. We play hard and honest, but we do not try to humiliate anybody like this.”
“I can’t understand why he behaves like that to us. We finish work at four and then go training in the evening,” he quipped.
