Zlatan Ibrahimovic has threatened to sue a Swedish Athletics trainer according to his agent after the latter made allegations about the striker being involved in doping. The trainer’s name is Ulf Carlsson and he has been part of the coaching setup at Sweden’s athletic’s team.
The allegation comes as a big surprise considering that Carlsson has never worked with Ibrahimovic. The Swede’s agent Mino Raiola was unhappy with the trainer’s claims and was very frank in his reaction.
“We will sue him” said the agent, “There are always people who hate. Maybe he is a former athlete who failed, or maybe he’s just jealous. But this man has made a big mistake.” added Raiola.
It seems Zlatan and Raiola share very similar personality traits considering the aggressive nature of the response. And the agent went on to threaten the trainer saying, “He had one life before making this statement, and he will have a different life after it. He is spreading falsehoods.”
Karlsson believes Ibrahimovic was involved in the illegal activity during his time at Juventus when he won two Scudetto titles that were later revoked after the Calciopoli scandal. His agent was instrumental in helping the striker leave the club after they were relegated to Serie B and he maintains that the Swede underwent several medical examinations to ensure he wasn’t doping.
“Doping at Juventus was over when Zlatan arrived. We had plenty of doping controls there and Zlatan was tested between 15 and 20 times. Juventus were always under the microscope. The claims are just crazy – the facts are not there. All the clubs Zlatan has been at know he doesn’t even take aspirin."
Carlsson admitted to not having any proof but his suspicion was based on a supposed increase in Ibrahimovic’s weight at Juventus. According to Expressen, he discussed at a conference as to “how widespread doping is … And Zlatan increased weight very quickly [at Juventus]. It is unnatural to show such rapid weight gain.”
Even the 34-year-old’s National team coach Lars Richt was baffled by Carlsson’s open claim saying, “I’m speechless, I have to say, that he can come up with these accusations. I don’t know what he is basing it on … the claims are extraordinary.”
Ibrahimovic was involved in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Wednesday night when he scored their first equalizer and missed a penalty. The accusation had come up after the game and Raiola said Zlatan was calm about the matter. “I was just talking to him. He is calm. He’s more embarrassed that he missed a penalty yesterday. He said it was not his job to respond to these kinds of allegations.”
