What is the lore behind Demogorgon in Fortnite?
The Demogorgon, also known as the Monster, is from the Stranger Things franchise. This creature was a predatory humanoid that entered the town of Hawkins, Indiana in November 1983 (based on the franchise's timeline). The creature seemingly originated from the parallel dimension known as the Upside Down. This is a place filled with untold horrors lurking in the shadows.
This crossover occurred when Eleven (one of the protagonists of the franchise), was subjected to experiments. After she had made contact with the creature using her psychokinetic abilities, a gate opened between the Upside Down and their own reality. The creature then set foot in Hawkins, and began hunting, killing and kidnapping various local townspeople until it was eventually slain. While its reign of terror ended in the franchise, it still lurks in the Metaverse.
Demogorgon's official description in-game reads, "Turn the battle upside down." This is a direct reference to the Upside Down. Aside from this reference to the Stranger Things franchise, there is not much else to go on in terms of in-game lore. The creature merely exists as a usable cosmetic in-game and nothing more. Epic Games has not used Demogorgon in the game's main storyline.
