Fortnite has stacked up an expansive library of cosmetics and emotes over the years, allowing players to express themselves on the battlefield and communicate with their peers without actually saying anything. However, as of late, the game's community has been continually growing dissatisfied with the offerings of the in-game Item Shop, especially with emotes.

Many players have proposed theories about why certain emotes and other cosmetics have not been added to the game in a while. Now, popular content creator and personality Ali-A recently revealed how Epic Games has essentially confirmed to him the reason behind such exclusivity, largely having to do with the new modes introduced in Chapter 5.

According to Ali-A, who recently saw his Icon Series skin return to the Item Shop, alongside other cosmetics themed around his skin, he was confused when he saw that his emote, the Lil' Diplodoculus Emote, was not featured in the Item Shop. This prompted him to contact Epic Games regarding the mysterious absence of his emote.

To his surprise, the developers told him how cosmetics now have to fit a certain set of rules to be featured in the Fortnite Item Shop. According to Epic Games, the cosmetics featured in the shop have to support all the new modes that were introduced in Chapter 5 Season 1.

This includes the LEGO mode, the Festival mode, and Rocket Racing. This suggests that Epic Games is currently focused on bringing back cosmetics and emotes that are compatible with every mode in the game and not just the Battle Royale mode.

Since Ali-A's Lil' Diplodoculus Emote cannot be used in the LEGO mode, unlike many other emotes, it was not brought back to the Item Shop alongside other cosmetics in his set.

While players have suspected and blamed game modes like the LEGO mode for such practices in the Item Shop, it has remained a theory among members of the community rather than the outright truth.

However, with the recent revelations from a content creator as big as Ali-A, it seems that these theories had some truth to them. It remains to be seen how these new rules will further impact the in-game Item Shop in the future.
