Fortnite NPCs have been around for years now. Although they were initially added in to make the island feel more lived in, over time, their utility and purpose have evolved drastically. As of Chapter 5 Season 2, NPCs are no longer mere bystanders in the storyline, but can be interacted with. Players can engage in conversation with them to purchase a variety of services.
This includes things like purchasing weapons/items, being healed, opening Rifts in space-time, and even hiring them as battle-buddies. They will fight alongside players and provide perks depending on their specialization. There are currently four different specialist classes, and likely more are in development. Aside from friendly NPCs, there are Boss NPCs as well.
Unlike NPCs that can be interacted with, these Boss NPCs tend to be hostile. They and their lackeys will attack on sight and will not stop until you are out of combat range or get eliminated in the process. While they are difficult to defeat, doing so will provide a few benefits in the form of items and/or weapons.

Who are the most recent Fortnite NPCs? (March 2024)
As of now (March 2024), there are several new NPCs to speak of such as Brutus, Medusa, and Hope. Many were introduced during the start of Chapter 5 Season 2, but other than that, nothing has changed. During the upcoming update v29.01, a new Midas NPC could be added in, but there is nothing to suggest the same at the moment.
All Fortnite NPCs (Chapter 5 Season 2)
As of March 2024, there are 19 NPCs that can be found on the island. 15 of them are interactable NPCs, while the other four are Boss NPCs (Gods). They are not friendly and will attack on sight. However, defeating them in combat will yield Mythics and Aspects (Medallions).
That said, here is the list of all Fortnite NPCs in Chapter 5 Season 2:

All upcoming, leaked, and potential Fortnite NPCs
As of now, there are no new NPCs to speak of, but there are a few rumors. A new version/variant of Fishstick might be featured as an NPC soon. The God Of War, Ares, is also rumored to be added to the island next month.
Given the trend of adding new NPCs mid-season has been carried out for years now, new NPCs will undoubtedly be added soon. These will likely be friendly NPCs as there is not much scope for anymore Boss NPCs in the current season.
