When Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 kicked off, The Herald took her place at the Sanctum and allowed Chrome to run free. In response to this attack on the island, the good folks over at No Sweat Insurance began chrome-proofing POIs.
By strapping giant balloons to buildings and structures, they were able to get some of them into the air. Since Chrome can only consume whatever it comes into contact with, many POIs in the path of this substance have been spared.

However, according to an official teaser from Epic Games, Chrome will eventually win and consume everything; even those structures and buildings that have managed to take to the sky.

The Driftwood goes Chrome in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4
After the POI known as Lustrous Lagoon was consumed by Chrome, the pirate ship known as The Driftwood raised its anchors and started moving to a non-chrome location. It finally came to a halt next to a bridge that connects the desert biome to the alien one.
While it may have escaped being consumed by Chrome, Flutter Barn, a POI next to The Driftwood, didn't. Given that this location and Cloudy Condos lie on the extreme western and eastern sides of the desert, respectively, there's no doubt that over time the substance will spread out from these two POIs.
With The Driftwood safe in the sky, there’s nothing to worry about, right? Well, as it turns out, when Epic Games said Chrome would consume everything, they weren't exaggerating.
As seen in an official teaser by Fortnite, The Driftwood will eventually be consumed and turned into Chrome. If this substance can reach the sky, it can only be surmised that The Flairship and No Sweat Insurance will be consumed as well.
In fact, everything that's on the island will be consumed in due time. With roughly a month and a half to go until next season, Chrome will be spreading rapidly following each major update. Speaking of which, there's a possibility that in the coming week, following the Fortnite update v22.20, Driftwood may be consumed by Chrome.
Given its proximity to Flutter Barn and the fact that its fate has already been revealed, this may just come to pass. Nevertheless, it's best not to jump to conclusions and wait for leakers to do the needful and provide confirmation of the same.
What will happen once the island has been consumed by Chrome in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4?
If Chrome is similar to the corruption that was spread by the Cube Queen, reality may come to an end once again unless The Paradigm intervenes. However, with her in another reality now, there's nothing to slow down or stop it from spreading.
That said, depending on what the developers have in store for the future, accordingly things can be speculated upon. On one hand, there are rumors of Fortnite Chapter 4 starting after Chapter 3 Season 4 ends, while on the other, it may just be Chapter 3 Season 5.
Until this can be confirmed, speculations as to what may happen can go either way. The Paradigm may make a last-minute return and overthrow The Herald. If not, Chrome consumes everything and the rumored Asteria map comes into play. Only time will tell which one comes true.
