Flatfoot is one of the most unusual skins to have ever been added to Fortnite. While there is nothing odd or peculiar about the skin's design, the character is barefoot. But that hasn't stopped the community from becoming obsessed with it.
Despite first introducing the skin to the game in Chapter 2, Season 1, she's still popular. That said, the reason behind her popularity has the community divided in opinion, and for a good reason.
Why is Flatfoot a controversial skin in Fortnite?

Well, according to the community, the skin is popular for one of two reasons: The user either has a foot fetish or relates the skin to the character from the Die Hard franchise.
While the first reason is already laid 'bare,' the second one requires a bit of pop-culture knowledge. According to most users, Flatfoot is the female version of John McClane. Although this is not true in any way, officially, at least, Epic Games has a habit of adding pop-culture-influenced content to the game.
Furthermore, since Donald Mustad yet again teased a Die Hard collaboration towards the end of 2022, Flatfoot has once more come into the spotlight. Here's what a few fans have to say about her popularity:
While a few users joked about the skin being popular thanks to 'foot-fetish,' most vouched that it was due to the skin being a gender-swapped version of John McClane. Sadly, those who may want to buy the skin will have to wait for some time.
Considering it was last seen in the Item Shop on April 25, 2022, it will be a few more months before it's unvaulted. Regarding the official John McClane skin, when will a collaboration with Die Hard come to fruition in Fortnite?
Will Fortnite x Die Hard ever become a reality?
While a collaboration with John McClane from Die Hard was planned for Fortnite in 2021, things didn't work out by the looks of it. Among all the other collaborations leaked during the Apple vs. Epic lawsuit, Die Hard is the only one that hasn't come to fruition.
Based on speculation, after Call of Duty scooped up John McClane as an operator back in November of 2021, having him in Fortnite was no good. Most of the traction would have been directed toward another playerbase entirely. This is why the collaboration didn't occur the first time around in 2021.
Even after Donald Mustard teased a collaboration in early December of 2022, nothing has come to completion. By now, most fans have given up any hope of having John McClane. However, knowing how Epic Games and Donald Mustard function, collaboration is most definitely in the works.
Since Donald Mustard is known for posting hints and teasers sometimes a year in advance, a collaboration may occur this December. But again, this is all based on speculation and guesswork. Truth be told, there's no way of knowing if and when a collaboration will occur.
If both parties cannot agree on certain aspects of collaboration, things may be put on hold indefinitely. Hopefully, this is not the case with John McClane.
