Fortnite is full of surprises. The ever-evolving pool of weapons and items in the game keeps surprising the players in both pleasant and sometimes disappointing ways. The game is adding another insane item in the game, but it is not another weapon, vehicle mod, or throwable item, as many players might expect. This item will make sure to bring a smile to the metalheads who love the new Metallica skin and it holds a deep cultural significance in the metal music scene.
The rhythm-based game mode, Fortnite Festival has been massively successful within the community. It is developed by Harmonix Music Systems, the same creative minds behind the very popular music game, Guitar Hero. With the fourth Season of the Fortnite Festival Pass, they are bringing the metal music icon Metallica to the stage. It is set to go live today (June 13, 2024) with the v30.10 content update. Among the various other items that you can unlock this season with the Festival Pass, there is a very iconic instrument that will raise the eyebrows of music-loving Fortnite players: Kirk's Gibson "Greeny" Les Paul Guitar.

The Fortnite Festival Season 4 Pass includes some of the best items we have seen in this game mode so far. However, the one item that stands out the most is Kirk's Gibson "Greeny" Les Paul Guitar. This item holds a deep cultural significance in the world of music that a lot of players might not know about.
I think a lot of people will not understand the significance of seeing this
Chainbrain, a popular guitar and metal Twitch streamer took to X, to tell us the origin of this guitar and how many iconic people used to own this.
According to Chainbrain, this iconic Gibson Les Paul guitar was originally owned by the popular guitarist Peter Green, from the band Fleetwood Mac. That is likely the reason behind the guitar's nickname, "Greeny". From there, it was sold to the Irish music icon, Gary Moore in the early 1970's. As per the Wikipedia article of "Greeny", Gary Moore used this guitar throughout his career both as a solo artist and in bands such as Skid Row and Thin Lizzy.
After keeping the guitar for over 30 years, Gary was forced to sell the guitar due to financial troubles, in 2006. The guitar then passed through several collectors around the world, finally reaching Metallica's guitarist, Kirk Hammett, in 2014. According to Kirk in a 2020 podcast hosted by Dean Delray, it was sold for "less than half a million dollars" by Richard Henry, on behalf of Melvyn Franks.
In recent years, Fortnite has evolved into a game that is pretty much connected to everything, it's not just a battle royale anymore. We should appreciate the developers and designers for pushing the creative boundaries and surprising players with such interesting updates regularly. The addition of the "Greeny" guitar is a testament to the innovation and efforts Fortnite is putting into this game. Such additions make the metaverse dream of Epic Games a reality.
