Fortnite Chapter 4 just debuted and has introduced a lot of new features. This means there's a new island, skins, and characters in the game. The cosmetics are a part of the Battle Pass, and some of the characters have been included in the game as NPCs. One of the main changes that occurs all the time is a brand new loot pool.
When a season or chapter changes, Epic Games takes the opportunity to cycle through weapons. Many times, this means vaulting and unvaulting weapons to get a bit of variety.
This season has introduced a lot of weapons, and some of them have been well-received. However, the shotguns this season have not lived up to expectations, and the community isn't pleased with them.

Fortnite community thoroughly displeased with new shotguns
Shotguns might be the most important weapon in the game. At close range, there is arguably no gun more suited for the fight than a shotgun. Having a good one, or one that a player can use well, can literally be the sole factor in determining the outcome of the altercation.
There are other weapons in the game that can be used at close range, but shotguns are still incredibly important. A well-timed and well-aimed shotgun shot can end the battle right then and there. For the most part, that's not true of any other gun in Fortnite.
It's always a risky move when Epic goes about changing the weapons, especially when the existing weapons are good. The playerbase appreciated the Ranger Shotgun, Lever-Action Shotgun, and other weapons from last season, so changing them was a risk, and it seems to have backfired thus far.
Redditor u/idiolistrash shared an image showing how the shotguns were just inferior versions of other weapons.
In fact, they went as far as to say that the majority of shotguns were ripoffs of the two original versions: the Tactical Shotgun and the Pump Shotgun. There have been a lot of shotguns in Fortnite so far, but they all seem to link back to those two weapons.
The Tactical Shotgun and the Pump Shotgun were beloved weapons, and every other shotgun has just felt cheap in comparison.
The game's community mostly seems to agree with the original poster, and they've aired out their various frustrations on Reddit. One commenter, u/Kittens4267, feels that the new shotguns don't even work properly.
Player u/PattyMcFatty0 doesn't understand why Epic has to change weapons so frequently:
u/iamRumspringer believes that there's more than meets the eye:
Many gamers think the community needs to do something about the shotguns. u/xthelord2 encouraged players to avoid using the new weapons:
Most of the community just wants the original pump back:
Epic may very well buff these weapons or add more to give Fortnite players additional options, but that may not happen for a while, if at all.
