Chickens in Fortnite are calm and composed creatures, but when provoked or chromed, they will attack every now and then.

That said, most players are not aware that a tame chicken can attack opponents at close range. Upon noticing that this mechanic is still a well-kept secret, Epic Games is now asking players to deal damage to opponents with a chicken peck.

While this may come across as a silly Avian Ambush Challenge, 20,000 experience points await those who manage to complete it.

A step-by-step guide on how to deal damage with a chicken peck in Fortnite

1) Land next to a hot-drop zone and gear up

The first step of this challenge will be to land in and around hot-drop POIs such as Tainted Towers, Flutter Barn, or Cloudy Condos. Once on the ground, look for supplies and gear that will be needed for the match.

Since this challenge will involve some melee-range combat, finding a few extra healing supplies will come in handy. Additionally, a shotgun and an SMG will also be needed if things go south while attempting the challenge.

2) Look for a chicken to tame

Once the gear and the healing supplies are secured, the next step is to look for a chicken in and around the respective POI. In most scenarios, chickens can be found on the western side of the POI. This is true for Flutter Barn as well; you just have to cross the river to find multiple spawn locations.

Once a chicken comes into sight, you have to time your approach with precision. If you get too close and fail to grab the wildlife, they will make a run for it. If this happens, it's best to wait and let them settle down before attempting to catch them again.

3) After grabbing the chicken, get within melee weapon range of an opponent

The hard part of the challenge begins after the chicken has been grabbed. You have to rush at opponents while holding the chicken to get within melee range. Given that opponents will open fire, some fancy footwork will be required to dodge bullets.

If this method proves too challenging, you can try to aggravate NPCs and get them to turn hostile. Since they don't have very good aim for the most part, you can easily rush in with a chicken without taking too much damage.

4) When in range, allow the chicken to peck them

Once within the range of an opponent or a hostile NPC, you just have to stand in front of them while holding the chicken to complete the last step of the challenge. The creature will automatically attack and deal damage to whoever is in front of you.

The chicken needs to peck the opponent or the NPC only once for the Fortnite challenge to be registered as complete. You can quickly switch over to a proper weapon and get your elimination after that.
