While most Fortnite players engage in combat, one user decided to use the game as a platform to make a prom proposal back in 2018. To date, this has been one of the sweetest gestures and immortalized not just one but two people in the metaverse.

Back in 2018, Fortnite was the talk of the town in the gaming community. With its building mechanics being unique, everyone wanted to hot-drop into the game and experience the new Battle Royal firsthand. While most approached the gameplay in the traditional way, one gamer did the same a little differently.

The Fortnite proposal that has stood the test of time

Back in Chapter 1, when the community was relatively smaller, a player, whose real name is Eric Grulke, wanted to ask his beloved out to prom. While an over-the-top proposal in real life would have worked, including one in-game would have been something special. To make it happen, he approached the developers.

Considering that numerous game creators have immortalized people in other video games, this wasn't a weird request. In fact, a player known as Chappadoodle is still remembered fondly after a rescue mishap.

There was no guarantee that the proposal would be included since there are numerous creative protocols that developers must adhere to. Despite having creative freedom, nothing can be added to the game without someone signing off on it.

Nevertheless, Eric was determined to see things through. Although some sources claim that the prom-proposal request started as a joke, the developers took the matter rather seriously.

While how they made it happen remains unknown, the developers came through and delivered on the gamer's request. They added Eric's prom proposal to the game. Found on a table within the house at Greasy Grove was a note that read:

"Andrea, will you go to prom with me? - Eric"

Although this note had players confused at first, it didn't take long for the community to collectively solve the mystery behind it. Ironically enough, the developer who oversaw the inclusion of the prom proposal was also named Eric, the Design Director for Fortnite at Epic Games.

While there was no post stating unequivocally whether she said "yes" to Eric, he later posted a picture of himself and Andrea on Twitter. The image shows the couple embracing each other with Fortnite running in the background and a gun's scope zoomed in on the proposal in-game.

It seems that the in-game prom proposal worked. One user curiously asked Eric what made him special and allowed him to randomly just have something included in the title. Here's what he had to say in response:

"I asked. Anybody could have done it, but I just happened to be the person that asked for a dope prom proposal."

This just goes to show that, much like in Fortnite, every shot not taken is an opportunity missed. Maybe in future seasons, someone else will approach the developers with a similar request and be obliged. Here are a few reactions from fans to Eric's prom proposal:

With all that said, it's unclear what happened to Eric and Andrea. With his Twitter account lying dormant and hers deactivated, there have been no updates regarding the duo for years. Hopefully, things are all well, and they're still playing Fortnite together as a couple.
