Update: Epic Games has resolved the issues by increasing XP gain throughout all core modes in Fortnite (including Save The World). As such the XP nerf has been reverted, and players will now earn XP as they were before the v33.00 update for Chapter 6 Season 1.

Fortnite Save The World XP has been nerfed into the ground this season. It has made the mode redundant and all but pointless for players looking to earn Battle Pass XP. The issue was brought to light by the user @archer_fortnite on social media platform X. According to their own first-hand experience in Save The World, XP has been capped to an unimaginably low threshold.

Instead of being able to gain nine Seasonal Levels per day by playing, you can now earn only nine per week. With Chapter 6 Season 1 ending on February 21, 2025, you would have roughly 11-12 weeks in hand.

This means if you solely rely on Save The World to complete the Chapter 6 Season 1 Battle Pass, you would fall short by roughly 101 Seasonal Levels. This is a major downgrade compared to Chapter 2 Remix, when Save The World offered up to 448,000 playtime XP daily. Here is more insight into this massive change and how the current Fortnite Save The World XP will affect leveling up this season.

Fortnite Save The World XP changes have riled up the community and with good reason

As aforementioned, the changes made to the Fortnite Save The World XP system are outrageous in many ways. Given that the mode has a small player base, those still active are now being snubbed of XP. This, in turn, will force more players to abandon the mode and migrate to Battle Royale/Zero Build, Festival, and Reload to complete their Battle Pass.

@archer_fortnite, explaining the situation, said:

"If you reach your weekly cap, you will get 4% of the XP amount for a mission, so if you run endurance wave 30 you will get 14,308 XP instead of 357,700."

Of course, Save The World cannot help you get to Seasonal Level 200 on its own, but it was a nice way to level up while enjoying the PvE mode. With the current changes made to the Fortnite Save The World XP system, it is now impossible to just play one core mode. Players will have to branch out and play other core modes to gain enough XP.

It goes without saying, that while Epic Games might have its reasons for this change, it is gatekeeping, to say the least. The entire point of having XP sharing between all core modes for the Battle Pass is rendered moot if the XP gain is negligible. User @WayComet summed up the situation with the following post.

It can be argued that Battle Pass XP from Save The World wasn't a feature until very recently. Hence, this change is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, However, adding it and then making it obsolete is two steps backward. Save The World is already a niche within the ecosystem, and implementing XP changes such as these will only prevent players from joining in.

It is truly mindboggling as to why such radical changes were made to Fortnite Save The World XP, especially since Winterfest 2024 is right around the corner. Moreso, given that this is a premium (paid) mode, limiting XP seems counterproductive to and for Epic Games itself. If there's no XP to be had by playing Save The World, there's no point in players buying it in the first place.

Given that the mode is still active and players (including myself) play it regularly, prematurely and indirectly, to quote Skyrim: "Taking an arrow to the knee." - makes no sense at all. While you can play PvP in Creative, it is still not the same as Save The World, especially when V-Bucks are on the line as well.

Hopefully, the situation changes and Fortnite Save The World XP will be reworked entirely to benefit players. If limiting Fortnite Save The World XP gain to five or six Seasonal Levels a day paves the way forward, it is better than only earning nine per week.

That said, the Fortnite Save The World XP situation will be monitored closely, and the article will be updated if and when the situation changes. As it stands, this is everything we know at present.
